This is not Silva! Silva was singing in a nearby aviary. This female goshawk is almost the same age as Silva. Every year she lays several eggs and incubates them. The eggs are unfertilised, so none of them will hatch. It is impossible to make the bird to not lay egg. If you do so, she will brood on the bare ground. Therefore, we do not interfere with it, but make a cosy nest for her.
Hawks, like all other birds, have ears. However it’s extremely difficult to examine them like that, and you would have no fingers left if you poked your finger there.
This female is not so friendly to everyone - she will pounce on an outsider and protect her aviary. She perceives me as her mate. I carry her food and help her build the nest.
Additional details:
A male does not need to be put there. Hawks attack and eat their own kind sometimes, which means that the female will kill and eat the male if she does not like him. To breed hawks, you need a large aviary with two compartments and shelters, where the male can hide. This female does not perceive males as partners at all. She will sit on the eggs for about a month and a half, then leave them. And she will not be upset! Now she is resting, not straining herself, getting food and moulting quietly. If you remove the eggs, she will lay new ones, and this will create extra pressure on the body.
Nesting is not an emotional desire but the result of hormonal processes. That is, the bird itself does not want chicks. She is simply carrying out the program of her body, following instincts. She does not feel anything and does not suffer.
Trying to breed chicks under such conditions is an extremely bad idea.
Firstly, we do not need them. To raise a full-fledged hawk and train it so that it can survive in nature, in such conditions, is extremely difficult and irrational. No one will be able to transfer them to work either. There are enough hawks in nature, so nobody will need these chicks.
Secondly, for breeding you need a special permission from the state and precise monitoring.
Thirdly, the female will no longer be able to work as a patrol bird and the meaning of keeping her at the airport will be completely lost. So, no, there will be no chicks. The hawk does not suffer, she feels good, has a good rest and has a good time. She will not be sad, don't worry.
