Yoll the Eagle-Owl

5 жыл бұрын

Yoll is not satisfied with the hot weather. It's too hot both inside and outside of home, that's why she doesn't move around much.
Lately there are not many videos of her because Yoll doesn't want to play and frolic around in the heat. Right now she's active only during the night, when I can't film anything useful.
-------
Note added by translator:
Before you scream "ANIMAL ABUSE!!", please calm down. The owner of this channel is a professional falconer and ornithologist.
Yoll is NOT a wild owl. She is a third-generation captive-bred owl born in a nursery. She has recurring pneumonia and does not know how to hunt and therefore cannot be released.
Yoll is perfectly happy and healthy living in Nika's home. She has plenty of time to fly outside in the park. She is just a bit grumpy in this video.
The straps on her feet are jesses, which are like a dog's collar. All raptors in falconry wear jesses, which allow falconers to keep control of the birds. Raptors do not feel uncomfortable when wearing suitable jesses. Moreover they can bite them off with their beaks if they want to, but they don't do so as they perceive the jesses as part of their legs.
If you are one of the people who think that she "should be free" then I suggest you watch this video, in which Nika explains why you are wrong: • 1 "Отпустите сову, она...

For those who write that the owl should be free. When the owl was young, she was sick (lung problems). Yoll was born in the nursery, like her mother and grandmother (she is 3rd generation). She is not from nature! She does not know how to hunt, she does not even respond to living mice. She does not know what to kill them. Once she took off her mounts by accident and flew away ... to a nearby tree and sat there for 5-6 hours (this is dangerous in the afternoon in the city, a flock of ravens can attack it and bring it down to the ground where a dog can attack it). The owl does not understand that it must be released to "freedom" because considers the apartment to be his home, and would not be happy if she was kicked out. Nika is an aviation ornithologist, she works and deals with birds, if you are not an ornithologist (do not have education and training), you should not give advice on keeping a bird. Release the bird, kill it - the good ones go live in the forest from your homes, because your ancestors lived there. P.S. It may be a surprise, but owls do not like to fly. They do not migrate and fly little in nature, only during hunting. This owl is forced to fly in parks to maintain physical fitness, otherwise it will sit on its ass and look around and be happy. Sorry for bad english

your English is great. I have great horned owl friends in the wild, they follow me and fly tree to tree as i walk, they have hunted in front of me and brought back kill to eat, they have mated in front of me and brought their babies to me and we all hoot together and do screech calls. One of the last times I saw every owl in the area and they were having a mating ritual, over 20 of them and the males kept going from female to female, different ones. I feel blessed to have them as friends, they have hunted and mated tonnes of times, same with a pair of coywolves but the female is gone now or passed on and i miss her a lot, a whole lot. She would walk with me too and would sniff my heals, watch me do owl calls in front of her and howl at each other to say hi or goodbye. Peace and God Bless

@@WarmCedarElf Her full name is Yollka (which on Russian means fir/Christmas tree) actually. And in Russian, we have to change words depending on the person/subject to which they relate, and depending on many other factors (we call this a "case change", in German there are also similar grammatical rules). Also in Russian language we can change names a bit to make it more cute than it is. AND "У Ели" (it must be "У Ёли) sound like "U Yolli", so this person change her name from Yollka to Yoll and change it because of a question "who has?" (who has furious face? Yoll has. All our language is depending on right questions to the words lol). This stuff is very difficult to someone who do not talk russian, ukrainian, belarusian, polish, maybe german and kazakh languages (one of them, not all), but all I wanted to say is don't try to correct russian-talking people on saying/writing RUSSIAN names. We know better how to change it in different situations :) (I'm sorry if I offended you, I only wanted to correct you tho)

For those who are screaming at the lady, calling her names and demanding her to let the owl free - you guys are obviously wayyy too emotional and extremely uneducated. She is a bird rehabber which means she saves Birds, takes care of them and releases them back into the wild. Some birds can't go back due to health reasons or they simply can't survive on their own. Those are the birds she keeps safe with her. So stop with the free the owl bs, and actually use your tiny brains before you harass a woman doing a good deed- SAVING ANIMALS!

People in this videos comments don't seem to understand the situation this owl is in. It CANNOT be let out into the wild because it was a rescued animal that has no skills to survive in the wild. If you've watched Yoll's other videos you would understand she is a professional that saves owls and other animals that have been abandoned by their previous owners because they had no skill in taking care of owls. And therefore gives them a better, healthier life with proper care instead of being couped up in a cage to only live for a few years. If she has an owl that is suitable to go into the wild, she releases it into the wild and not keep as a pet. TLDR: This owl is in proper care by a professional caretaker and cannot be let in the wild.

*To those of you about to comment stating that the owl should be set free:* Please do your research before making comments like this. Yoll has Lung Disease, was born in captivity and raised by humans. An animal who has imprinted on humans and raised without the vital knowledge they would gain from being raised in the wild should not be released into the wild, regardless if its species is 'wild.' It is not safe for the animal, since they weren't raised with skills to survive. Please imagine, having food brought to your table every day, having medicine for every illness you get, and water whenever you're thirsty. And then suddenly one day, being set out into the wilderness where none of those things are readily accessible or brought to you, and having no idea how to get them. You could possibly starve, or go thirsty. That's what it would be like for this individual animal. They don't know the skills to survive out in the wild. Their chance of survival is very low. Lastly, the Lung Disease. Yoll would have a much more difficult time surviving in the wild because of it. Add that on top of her life being hand-raised by humans and she would very likely die. For the record, I don't agree with keeping 'wild' animals as pets. If the animal was smuggled into the pet business from the wild, that would obviously be a very big problem. But not all animals that are 'wild' are like this. Some like Yoll are in human captivity because they have never known what it's like to be in the wild (in other words, raised by humans,) or because they are being rehabilitated.

I love how half of the English comments that came here from KZbin's recommendations talks about "Oh that owl is angry, you should set her free", or "Boo hoo, you are a cruel bitch that loves to imprison that owl", or literally crying and whining like PETA when they clearly don't know that the owl is domesticated and the woman is a falconer. She knows how to take care of the owl, and the fact that the owl is domesticated means it won't survive in the wild. The woman has raised Yoll ever since she was a chick. If Yoll were to dislike the woman, she would've caused serious injuries to the woman like snapping her fingers off with her beak or scratching her face with her claws. Yoll knows she's been loved and she lives a happy life. She just angry and grumpy in general.

This is something I care about deeply. I started volunteering at the local animal shelter at 14 after school. I'd take the city bus to get there. I've seen lots of wild animals that were unable to be released after rescue. Three-legged raccoons, blind opossums, fawns that have lost their fear of people or society. The best case scenario for these animals (short of saying, "they don't belong with us!" And euthanizing them or abandoning them in a habitat they can no longer survive in) is that one of the volunteers or rangers decides to get their cert and keep them for their natural life. Before anybody says this owl should be let go or how cruel this woman is for keeping an owl in captivity, I recommend you go research falconry. The cause for this owl not being in the wild could be due to a number of things including any injuries that could be detrimental to it in the wild. If it was raised from birth it may not understand how to live in the wild, which again would be detrimental to it's survival. Also good falconers will take their birds out to hunt. In fact falconers and their birds become extremely beneficial to eachother as hunting partners. The birds are also fed appropriately and maintain a certain weight in order to achieve peak flight performance, providing them the perfect physical necessities for survival and thrival in the wilderness. Do your research before you comment on something you have no understanding of please.

Okay so I see a lot of people in the comments speaking about setting Yoll free, so I'll *also* give a rundown on Yoll. Yoll has an illness/disease (if I am correct I hear it's a lung disease?) that prevents her from living a life out in the wilderness. If set free, *she will die in a matter of days* . I have watched a couple of videos about Yoll and everything is the same, she is taken care of. This person is a professional (I hear her name is Nika? Which is gorgeous) and knows how to take care of her. I can promise you Yoll is in good hands. (Credit to A S C E N D E D W H I T E M A N for also doing this, what a beautiful man and name) If Yoll *wanted* to fly off, she could have by now. It's clear that Yoll also doesn't want to die so you should care about that if you say "Set her free" and _not_ say "Who the fuck cares?" after somebody gives you a clear description on the backstory of the two, hello there Tom Davis.

Beautiful owl. I grew up with 2 great horned owls that my dad rescued in our woods when we were kids in Minnesota. We named them Morton and Butterball. We fed them until they were old enough to fly. They still hung around our barn for a couple of weeks when we noticed another owl hanging around. My dad thought it was probably the mother since they fell out of their nest when my dad found them. It was an awesome experience but we were sad to see them go. I'm happy to see owls being cared for, they are my favorite 😍

I think people who know nothing of owls are mistaking the general personality of this owl to be "sadness". If the bird didn't like that lady it would seriously injure her; it can rip her fingers off if it wanted in a millisecond. An animal like that can seriously injure you by accident with ease. Yoll is about as happy as an owl gets which is still pretty angry in general lol. Stop trying to humanize every creature. If you really knew how to relate to owls you would know that everything is fine in this situation.

For all the negativity here in the comments. If she lets Yoll the owl go he will die. Additionally, owls are beautiful creatures, that have great depth both emotionally and physically that no one can understand unless you research or you are Yoll. I think it is amazing she is so responsible to love and care for Yoll. Oh, and the reason why he bites is because owls are farsighted. So they can't see up close. anything close to their face instinctually feels its food. so of course, they bite. Instincts are the same reason we fuck. We can't help it. Yoll and this lady that take cares of him are amazing. BTW Yoll gives us a glimpse into what owls are like. I think its fascinating. I love Yoll. God bless this lady.

anonymous smh you’re spreading too much false shit. You need to watch the damn channel if you want to understand what the fuck is going on. I can link you to a fucking video about how she doesn’t recommend keeping an owl, someone like Yoll, and also a fucking video about how there was an owl one time that was sent to her and she thinks if that owl can be let out to the wild. So you can’t call it abuse or animal cruelty when you haven’t watched the channels’ whole video to actually understand this. Plus, you said rebuild the damn forest. I wonder what YOU are doing then. Do more research or understand a channel before being quick to judge. Humans aren’t always cruel. You just have a small insight of what’s happening and think they’re all mean. What? You think I’m cruel for understanding a channel whom i watched most of their videos (WITH ENGLISH SUBTITLES ,THANK YOU) and understand that “Oh, they do care for the birds and animals.” It’s like you’re saying that dogs should be released in the wild after so many years of domestication. And no, Yoll isn’t in cages. The owner explained how when Yoll wanted to wake her up and almost got a scar or few from it meaning no, Yoll wasn’t in a cage. You would see that Yoll is mostly in her spot or would move around if she so pleases. And as the other videos, the owner explains that owls in cages are a big no no.

Some of these comments confuse me, like do some of yall really think you can just get an owl or bird of prey on a whim because you want one as a pet? Cuz it definitely doesn't work that way, you gotta get a falconry license and whatnot. And where I'm from that means being in an apprenticeship for like 2 years, it's not that easy. And even then I've never heard a falconer refer to their bird as a mere pet, but generally as a hunting companion. Because they arent domesticated like pets. And unless it's a rescue or a hand raised bird like Yoll, the birds generally are hunting companions. Part of using a bird for hunting means literally releasing it back into the wild with the trust it'll come back because you formed a symbiotic relationship with it. If they truly despised being in captivity, they wouldn't come back and would stay in the wild.
