This is the third video of our walk with three owls on April 1st in Kolomenskoye Park. Yoll and I came to visit Varya, who works as an eagle-owl at the Falconry Yard. / @ekskyrsovod
Nafanya was also brought from the nursery to see everyone.
Yoll breathes frequently and quivers her throat when she wants to cool down, just like dogs do. Yoll jumped and flown many times before filming, that's why she pants so much. When she notices a fence or a convenient stump she tries to jump on it right from my hand, that's why walking with Yoll near a fence is difficult.
All three owl are not happy to see each other, but they don't show any hostility towards each other. It's normal, because in nature eagle owls are friendly only to their spouse and to the chicks until they mature. In the wild if the birds do not need to defend their territory, food, or protect their chicks, they simply ignore each other and pay attention to the neighbor, only if he breaks into the "comfort zone". You can see that Yoll protesting when anyone approaches closer than half a meter. She does not attack, but warns the intruder and tries to move away.
It's wise for the eagle-owls to act like that, because they are well aware that there will be no winner in a fight. Anyone can get an injury that will complicate hunting and lead to death from starvation. Therefore, predators analyze the situation adequately and very carefully and do not attack each other.
Yoll is not jealous of me interacting with other birds, she's not angry and not resentful about that. She's much more concerned about the dogs, whom she spots from a big distance.
Walks are necessary for large birds, as well as for dogs. They need movement, fresh air and sunshine. Also it's important for the bird to see different objects like people, animals, transport and different environments to get used to them all and not fear them.
