At the end of each summer, there are surprised and enthusiastic reports all over the country that someone suddenly saw a hummingbird bird! And it doesn't bother anyone that "hummingbirds" appear at dusk and they don't have a beak.
And these are, in fact, hawk moths hatching from cocoons, which fly in the evenings to the fragrant flowers to drink nectar. They can be seen in petunias and phloxes, in fragrant tobacco and other similar flowers.
These hawk moths are not attracted to the light, but their eyes glow red in the beam of the lantern.
