Kalinka the scops owl is a wild owl from nature. She was admitted to the rehabilitation center as an adult bird with a broken wing. After the fracture was treated, it was not possible to return the owl to nature: it cannot fly.
Therefore, she was handed over to me along with another injured female scops owl.
They've been living with me for about two years now.
Yesterday afternoon I found Kalinka the owl sitting on the floor of the enclosure. This is not normal, because during the day she always hides in a hollow.
After examining the owl, I found a swollen tummy and felt an egg inside, which seemed to be stuck and could not come out, causing severe pain.
I immediately wrote to the bird doctor, Valentin Kozlitin. He can guide patients remotely.
The bird would have to be taken to Maria Markina, but Artyom is now in St. Petersburg, there was no way to get to Moscow urgently.
I described to Valentin the whole story, the symptoms, the weight of Kalinka, and shot a video with the bird problem. He listed the medications that are needed. Fortunately, everything I needed was available in my medicine bag.
Valentin calculated the dosages and scheduled the course of treatment.
It helped! Kalinka was able to lay an egg this afternoon. It's worthless, a thin-shelled chatterbox. These are usually called "fat eggs." And there was already one egg in the hollow. It looks better than this. I don't know whose it is.
I returned Kalinka the owl from the box to the aviary. Trunik was very worried about her absence there. As soon as I came out of the enclosure, the Trunik immediately flew to Kalinka. Then he started bringing her food in a hollow.
The course of treatment will last another 40 days. I hope that everything will work out.
