The video was filmed on 30.12.17 as a report for our vet (Valentin Kozlitin). He is the vet that saved Chuchundriy's life and health about 13 years ago and continues to monitor the patient and give necessary medical advice.
Now Chu feels relatively fine for an old owl with blindness in both eyes.
Judging by the fact that his pupils react to light, he is not totally blind. Chu finds his way around his cage without much problems. I've seen some people rage about the fact that he is kept in a cage, even though keep saying that owls should not be kept in cages. That's true. But Chu doesn't fly and wouldn't find his way around outside his cage. He used to live in the room completely unrestricted, but as his health deteriorated, he got relocated to a comfortable cage, where even the lighting is dimmed.
Someone else suggested me to euthanise him. We see no reason for doing that, as Chu isn't suffering. He eats with pleasure, takes his own baths and sings at night, which indicates that the bird is comfortable and emotionally secure.
That's why Chu remains with us.
