The second day of Scops tour and Owl tour of that strange summer 2020. On the first day, we did not touch this nest box, because there were many tourists around who might be interested in our action. Because of the rain, the owls didn't start ringing under a tree, took them to off-road van "Bukhanka" ("Loaf"), where we safely put the rings with numbers on the legs, examined and photographed.
One scops owl had dried up meat on his beak. Afterwards it turned out that it was the meat of a male finch, whose head Levashkin found in a nest box while returning the chicks there. This is a shockingly uncharacteristic prey for scops owl, so even the owl chief specialist Alexey was extremely confused. It is possible that jokes about moose in a nest box are not jokes at all. Do not mess with a scops owl! Suddenly, the mystery of the lonely slippers left on the shore near the water is also a handwork of the fierce owls! No wonder when one scops owl started suspiciously ticking on us, like turning on its detonator.
