And then threw him in the forest!
Having visited the Sirin Wildlife Rehabilitation Center in St. Petersburg, we helped install a transmitter on the eagle-owl to track its movements and release it into nature.
This eagle-owl was born in a nursery, bought as a chick by individuals as a pet. When the eagle-owl grew up, he ceased to be a sweet loaf of bread and began to attack his owners, which is completely normal for an adult owl, which drives competitors out of its territory.
The owl was transferred to "Sirin" for running wild and preparing for release into nature. This is our first experience in releasing such a tamed bird bred in a nursery. He was released in the protected area under the supervision of local foresters who monitor the movement of the bird and are ready to help him if something goes wrong. If the eagle-owl was confused upon release, then the next day he would no longer allow people approach him.
We carried him in our arms so that he would not struggle in the carrier. We had to travel for only 15 minutes, therefore, it is more convenient and safer for the bird.
The process of putting on the transmitter and releasing the owl was filmed for broadcast on the Living Planet TV channel.
