This video was shot and given to me by Kristina "Mazai" from the @Suprememazay House of Hares.
Now Kristina, along with Anna Belyaeva, are in the thick of events on the shores of the Black Sea, where there was a huge fuel oil spill from two sunken tankers.
The video shows the vet headquarters, where the birds washed of fuel oil end up.
To help local specialists and to train volunteers, people from Wildlife Rehabilitation Centers from all over Russia gathered in Anapa: Lyubov Tomiris, head of the Instinct Wildlife Conservation Center, volunteers from the Voronye Gnezdo Foundation, Kristina Grigorieva, director of the House of the Hare, Yulia Sadovskaya, founder of the Biosphere Baltic Institute, head of the Pelikan Rehabilitation Center Maritta Chotchaeva, Olga Korableva from Izhevsk, as well as ornithological veterinarians Anastasia Timofeeva from Murmansk, Roman Kuznetsov and Olesya Pavlova from Moscow. And that's not the whole list.
Hundreds of people are helping the birds, as picking up a bird stained with fuel oil from the shore is just the beginning of a long and difficult chain to save this bird.
After passing through the "field" hospital, which you can see on the video, the birds leave for places of further rehabilitation, where they will be treated for intoxication, restore the fatty coating on the plumage, or even shed before release.
One of these places is the small Stavropol Pelican Wildlife Rehabilitation Center, which has already received more than 600 birds, many of which were in serious condition. Colleagues and volunteers from other centers will also go there soon. We will definitely make a video continuation of this story.
Fundraising to help birds is now officially underway here wall-17...
